Welcome to Gallery Utsuwa-kan.

Established in 1984 in the Murasakino area of Kyoto, Gallery Utsuwa-kan purveys fine ceramics by some of Japan’s best contemporary potters.
In Kyoto, the two poles of Japanese art--the traditional and the avant-garde--have been in competition for decades. Gallery Utsuwa-kan offers a large selection of vessels (utsuwa) and objets d’art by ceramists who neither rely upon tradition nor ignore it, but always aim at the creation of original works.

Gallery Utsuwa-kan is four stories high. The first two floors consist of a shop filled with the works of a variety of artists. The third and fourth floors are exhibition space in which individual and group shows are launched on a regular basis.
